In   1984   the   YMCA   National   Councils   of   England,   Wales,   Scotland   and   Ireland   realised   that   they   needed   to   coordinate   their   international   humanitarian   relief efforts   better.   Consequently,   Terry   Waite   CBE,   along   with   two   members   of   the   National   Council   of   England,   John   Naylor   and   David   Bedford,   officially founded Y Care International. To this day Terry remains President of the charity and is an active advocate of the organisation's work. Y   Care   International   forms   an   integral   part   of   the   YMCA   movement,   which   is   one   of   the   oldest   and   largest   voluntary   youth   organisations   in   the   world   and now   operates   in   119   countries.   Y   Care   International   believe   that   young   people   are   the   catalysts   for   change   in   their   own   and   others’   lives;   therefore   their needs are integral to the work that takes place in-country and through their partners. As   the   years   have   passed,   Y   Care   International   has   strengthened   its   role   as   a   development   agency   with   a   strong   focus   on   supporting   some   of   the   worlds most disadvantaged young people into work and out of poverty. Y   Care   International's   unique   YMCA   network   currently   enables   them   to   operate   in   15   of   the   poorest   countries   in   the   world.   With   projects   in   Africa,   Asia, Latin   America   and   the   Middle   East   their   primary   focus   is   on   working   with   young   women   and   men   aged   15-24   who   have   been   made   vulnerable   by   poverty, inequality and injustice. 2018   has   seen   YCI   launch   their   new   strategy,   which   focuses   on   Employment   and   Enterprise,   as   enablers   to   support   more   young   people   into   work   and   out   of poverty, they aim to create 1 million opportunities for young people to access decent work by 2030.
